Thanks to everyone that made it out to the DIRTYRICHMOND x HollywoodCemetery Halloween Party. We estimate that there must have been at least 200 people there. For the short time that the party was going on, I had a great time, and saw so many wonderful costumes. Thanks to my friends on Parkwood for hosting the party, Philip White of FTDPOTW for doing the sound, and Jawnii and Flute for amazing sets.

Obviously it is illegal to have any sort of fun in this city and the cops abruptly ended the party around 11:45. In the four years that I have been living in Richmond, this is the most aggressive that I have seen them in a while. I understand that parties are loud and can be annoying for neighbors; but seriously, the cops took things way too far. One of the cops yelled at one of my friends, and falsely accused her of pushing him when she only touched his shoulder. He made her cry, and there is a huge size difference between a 200 pound policeman, and a 19 year old girl that is dressed like a baby.

We were able to donate $50 to riderichmond.net, an online forum for Richmond’s biking community. See you guys next time at Dirty December Part II!

Sometimes my friends are surprised when I admit to still being a little nervous when approaching people. After doing this for so long, I thought I would have lost the feeling of excitement that I get when I see someone wearing something that I really admire; but that feeling has never left and neither has the occasional intimidation.

After sheepishly exchanging glances back and fourth, both of us trying to be as discreet as possible about looking at the other. Katerina was the first to break the ice with a simple, “I like your necktie.” I’m so happy she did and I immediately followed by telling her how much I loved her shoes and how perfectly I thought everything coordinated together.

It is always surprising who I happen to run into, and it turns out that Katerina is co-owner of Treasury, a vintage boutique in Washington, DC. What a coincidence and random chance encounter that I would run into her at the Folk Festival.

A few weeks ago, I was a featured guest on Zahra Haider’s new show, “The Everything Enthusiast,” on VCU’s independent student radio station. For the mp3 of this, click HERE and then find the download link near the bottom of the page. Zahra’s radio show broadcasts every Saturday afternoon from 1-2:00pm. I first met Dominic in a hallway on a rainy First Friday evening during the summer. Dominic is from Arizona and his personal style reflects this; cowboy boots, rugged leather jacket, and his backpack from Central America (can you believe that someone was going to throw this away!?). Looking at Dominic’s hands, it’s impossible not to miss the rings that grace each finger; and this is how I found out that he made the majority of them. I have been on the search for the perfect ring for nearly a year, but when I finally find one that I love, it is either to big or too small (most often too big), so it is not surprising that my next question was “Could you make me one?” A couple of weeks went by and when Dominic finished what he called his “finest work yet,” I suggested that we meet for an early dinner at Harrison Street Café’s for tofu BBQ sandwiches…because I always crave them.
