Erika Del Cid

Future Exchange Student

What are you majoring in?

My major is in International Relations and my minor is in Latin American Studies.

Why did you decided to study abroad?

There are lots of reasons. I’ve heard the stories of other people that have gone abroad. We’re young and it is a perfect time to travel. I’ve always been interested in world affairs, traveling, and I’ve been attracted to Indian culture for years.

So you’ll be in India?

I originally wanted to go to France because I studied French for years. However, I’ve always been interested in India and I wanted to go somewhere where I didn’t speak the language. India is a developing country but it is up and coming. It’s so diverse and really interesting to study.

How long will you be there?

I’m leaving December 26th because classes start on the 30th. I hear school is really intense and I have class on Saturdays. I’ll be back in the US during the first week of May.

You’re leaving so soon! What final things will you be doing?

I was going to go dancing with my mom, but I can’t because of the snow. Other than that, I’m going to chill with family and try to eat as much Latino food as I can.

Do you know a lot about Indian cuisine?

I can recognize the main dishes and desserts. Most of it is vegetarian. I’ve never had southern Indian food and that is where I’ll be. I hear that it is very spicy and flavorful, and I’m looking forward that.

What are you most excited about?

I want to get out of the country and see the real India. People who have been there tell you what it is like and I’ve seen Indian movies, but I’m really excited to understand and see another way of life for myself.
